Digital vs. Print 2010: More Money to be Spent on Digital Than Print Ads This Year
Digital Spending to Eclipse Print Ad Spend for the First Time in 2010. The Tide Has Turned
We all knew this was going to happen eventually. "One day," it has surely been said, "more money will be spent on digital than is spent on print advertising. Then we will know that a fundamental change has occurred."
Welcome to fundamental change, folks.
A study by Outsell, released on March 8th, indicates that American advertisers are spending more of their precious media dollars on digital media--that is to say, online--rather than print. Why? Because these cost-conscious times have created a veritable digital advertising boom, with figures projected to be up 9.65% in 2010.
These figures come from Outsell’s annual advertsing and marketing study, which canvassed 1,008 U.S. marketers from both the consumer and business-to-business sectors in December 2009. Of the US$368 billion those same marketers will spend in 2010, 32.5% will go to digital; 30.3% will go to print. Digital spending includes email, video advertising, display ads, and search marketing. "It's a watershed moment." says the study's lead author, Outsell vice president Chuck Richard.
